I'm sorry for advertising this baby only to stop writing in it for months at a time, I will try to curb this behavior, and keep everything interesting, always giving the curious new things to check out. Not all of it is so ridiculously unknown, in fact, much of it will be very well known to some people (especially recently), but the whole intention of this blog is to show all kinds of people unfamiliar music that they can enjoy, so don't throw a hissy fit or assume that I'm just stating the obvious if something isn't new to you.

What I've been delving into this month:


Tom Waits
Old Favorites: Rain Dogs , Small Change
New Discoveries: Real Gone, Bone Machine, Black Rider
If you don't know him, should. One of the most distinct voices in music. Almost all of his albums are classics but the ones listed are particularly good. Rain Dogs doesn't have a weak moment. And after almost 20 albums, he's still putting out at least 10 great songs an album with Real Gone. He's got a B-sides box set coming out soon that I've yet to check out.

Yellow Magic Orchestra
Must haves: Yellow Magic Orchestra, Solid State Survivor
I'd imagine that this band inspired 90% of video game music, but don't let that stop you from listening to them, there's a lot of kraftwork and new wave sounds, they are a band you have to hear.

King Crimson
Who doesn't know: In the Court of the Crimson King, In the Wake of Poseidon
Other great (Better IMO) albums: Discipline, The Power to Beleive, The ConstruKction of Light
Most people who are familiar with classic rock, and probably EVERYONE familiar with prog rock know ITCOTKK but not nearly as many people have heard Discipline and The Power to Beleive which are both killer albums straight through.

Antonio Carlos Jobim
Great: Passarim
My favorite Jobim, mostly because it's vocal and so bittersweet. If anyone knows any good bossanova ALBUMS (I know all the classic SONGS but no full albums), please tell me to check them out.

Xiu Xiu
Already loved: Fabulous Muscles
Now Discovering: The Air Force
Some people get him and some don't but I'd say you have to see him perform to fully understand. That doesn't mean these albums are anything short of amazing. Definetly takes multiple listens to get into. If you still don't understand, try to see it as something so ugly and disturbed that it's absolutely beautiful.

Revisiting:
Rock and Roll Volume Three - Ozma
The only band that can make me feel like I'm in middle school again better than Weezer, even if I didn't hear them until High School.
